    Steel Toe – Refers to the ASTM standards which are the F2412-05 Standard Test Methods for Foot Protection and F2413-05 Standard Specification for Performance Requirements for Foot Protection (I/75 C/75). The tests measure the effectiveness of impact and compression resistant footwear to eliminate or diminish the severity of injury to the toe area of the foot when subjected to a falling object.

    Slip Resistant – Special material and design channels liquid and other slippery substances away from the outsole to create superior grip with this type of footwear. The test determining the slip resistant of footwear sole, heel, or related materials against planar walkway surfaces or walkway surrogates (test surfaces) in either the laboratory or field under dry, wet, or contaminated conditions.

    Puncture Resistant – The type of footwear reduces the possibility of sharp objects (nails, glass or metal) penetrating through the outsole causing injury to the foot. Protection is provided by a steel or puncture resistant material imbedded in the insole of the footwear. Puncture resistant devices are tested using a sharp steel pin forced into the device at a given speed. The force required to puncture the device is measured. The devices are also texted for flexibility and corrosion resistance.

    Oil/Gas Resistant – The outsole material is resistant to damages from substances such as Oil aor Gas. The test measures the percentage of how oil or gas penetrated and causes the outsole to swell. Outsoles that can withstand and prevent higher level of Oil or Gas will last longer.

    Electrical Shock Resistant – This type of footwear is designed to provide a secondary source of protection against accidental contact with live electrical circuits, electorally energized conductors, parts or apparatus under dry conditions, reducing the potential of electric shock. Protection is severely deteriorated in wet environments. The footwear must withstand the application of 14,000 volts at 60 Hz for 1 minute with no current flow or leakage in excess of 3.0 milliamperes under dry conditions. Resistant is determined by the current flow (or leakage) through the footwear. Electric Shock Resistant footwear shall also meet the Class 75 requirements for impact and compression resistant footwear.
